The Marvel Cinematic Universe has announced its new X-Men cast at D23, with Star Wars actor Adam Driver set to play the villain Mr Sinister.
New X-Men Cast Revealed
The untitled 2028 X-Men movie, directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), has cast Christopher Abbott (Girls) as Professor Charles Xavier, Inde Navarette (Obsession) as Rogue, Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Cyclops, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Emma Frost, and Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm. They join Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) as Jean Grey, following her MCU debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Adam Driver Joins as Mr Sinister
Adam Driver, known for his role as Kylo Ren in Star Wars, is officially in the X-Men as Mister Sinister. In a video message for D23, Driver said: "Kevin [Feige] and I have been talking for years about me joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I think we finally found the perfect film and the perfect time with characters I care very deeply about. So I’m very excited to be playing the role of Magneto!… Wrong again. Right, even better, Nathaniel Milbury."
Nathaniel Milbury, also known as Nathaniel Essex, is the real name of Mr Sinister, an X-Men supervillain. In the comics, he is a 19th-century biologist obsessed with creating a perfect race of superhumans. Fellow villain Apocalypse uses Celestial technology to make him immortal with superpowers. He is particularly interested in Cyclops and Jean Grey, believing their DNA can create the ultimate mutant.
Release Date and Multiverse Context
Original X-Men cast members from the 2000s films, like Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen, may be reprising their roles in Avengers Doomsday’s multiverse clash, alongside Deadpool and Wolverine. However, the Marvel mutants are yet to have their own MCU incarnations for the Sacred Timeline’s Earth-616. Next year, the MCU’s Multiverse Saga will conclude with Avengers Secret Wars before debuting the Mutant Saga focused on the new X-Men cast.
More casting is to be announced at a later date. X-Men hits cinemas on May 5, 2028.
