Lego has unveiled its new Star Wars set for autumn: a colossal Ultimate Collector Series recreation of Darth Vader's personal Star Destroyer. It is officially the longest Lego set ever made, beating Harry Potter's Diagon Alley and the previous Ultimate Collector Series version of the regular Star Destroyer.
According to Star Wars canon, a Super Star Destroyer is meant to be almost 12 miles long, dwarfing regular Star Destroyers. The new model uses 6,130 bricks and measures 1.36 meters long, 50cm wide, and 20cm high. While it is not the overall biggest Lego set (that accolade belongs to the recent Sagrada Família church), it is the longest ever produced.
Details and Minifigures
The Super Star Destroyer first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back as the Executor, Darth Vader's flagship. It also featured in Return of the Jedi, when it crashed into the second Death Star. To emphasise the scale, the set includes a to-scale Star Destroyer and a tiny 1×1 round tile representing the Millennium Falcon.
The detailed 'greebling' of the central body includes unique printed tiles meant to recreate the lights on the superstructure. Also included is a separate recreation of part of the Executor's bridge, where Darth Vader tasked bounty hunters with tracking down the Millennium Falcon. The set includes Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Dengar (with a new backpack build), Bossk, IG-88 (with a new moulded head), 4-LOM, and Zuckuss.
Price and Availability
The UK price is £649.99 from Lego stores and the Lego website. It will be officially available from October 4, but Lego Insider members (free sign-up) can buy it from October 1. Those who purchase between October 1 and 10 get a free gift with purchase: a recreation of Darth Vader's Lightsaber hilt, not available to buy any other way.
