Netflix's new five-part crime drama Blood Sacrifice, created by Killing Eve writer George Kay, has quickly climbed the streaming charts since its release last week. The Swedish production currently sits at number three on the UK's top 10 most-watched series list and has claimed the top spot in other territories, including the US.
A Grim Hunt for a Serial Killer
Originally titled Blodsoffer in its native Sweden, the series centers on the hunt for a brutal serial killer who appears to be exclusively targeting police officers. The detective leading the investigation is forced to enlist the help of their father, a retired police officer, to help crack the case.
From Killing Eve to Blood Sacrifice
Kay is also known for ITV's Gone, Netflix's Lupin, and Apple TV+'s Hijack starring Idris Elba. He also created Criminal: UK and wrote episodes of Killing Eve. Given his track record, viewers are already calling his latest project 'addictive' and 'brutal'.
Critical and Viewer Reception
With more than half a dozen reviews online, Blood Sacrifice has achieved an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with one critic calling it a 'masterpiece'. One fan admitted to breezing through all five episodes over the weekend, saying: "Dark, intense, and absolutely addictive."
They continued: "Blood Sacrifice had me hooked from beginning to end. It's a dark, intense, and incredibly engaging series, with the perfect atmosphere for anyone who enjoys crime thrillers. For me, it was one of those shows you start watching and simply can't stop."
Some viewers have shared spoiler-free warnings that not everyone might be satisfied by the ending. One person shared: "An intriguing mystery, few episodes, a well-developed script, and a solid cast. I found the final episode rather lacklustre and anticlimactic, I expected more. Still, I recommend it, it's a good way to pass the time and a short series that's quick to binge-watch."
