Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is an impressive new fighting game from Arc System Works, scoring 8/10 in our review. The game, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 5 and PC, offers a deep combat system and a genuinely original take on tag team fighting.
A New Marvel Fighter
Arc System Works, known for Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, brings its expertise to the Marvel universe. The game features a large roster of varied characters, each with unique systems, such as Ghost Rider’s overheating mechanic and Peni Parker’s mech.
The tag team system is a highlight, allowing players to start with two fighters and extend to four, though the whole team shares a single health bar. This makes tagging out less about recovery and more about strategy.
Deep Combat and Accessibility
Tōkon is a technical fighter with a steep learning curve, but simplified controls and automatic combos make it accessible. The training mode and story modes, written by Kieron Gillen, are praised as some of the best in the genre.
The story modes feature five character teams, both heroes and villains, and showcase the game’s anime-influenced designs. While the animation is beautiful, the comic book panels with voice-acting are noted as more unique.
Performance and Verdict
On PlayStation 5, the game performs better than the PC version, though online netcode could still be improved. Despite some rough edges, Tōkon is a serious fighter with real depth, expected to become an esports favourite.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is available now for £59.99, with a release date of 6th August 2026 and an age rating of 12.
