The complete soundtrack for Mario Kart World is now available on the Nintendo Music app, giving Switch 2 owners an official way to listen to all of the game's music. The final batch of tracks, which includes remixes of songs from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, was added this morning, and Nintendo has included a bonus live recording of the title theme, also uploaded to YouTube alongside a live rendition of the Crown City music.
Soundtrack praised despite award snub
Mario Kart World's soundtrack has been widely praised as one of the best in Nintendo's history, though it was not nominated for Best Score And Music at The Game Awards 2025, presumably because it consists largely of remixes of existing tunes. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won the award, but fans consider Mario Kart World's music criminally underrated.
Nintendo has been adding the soundtrack in batches, and the final lot dropped this morning. The Nintendo Music app is free to use, and a dedicated web player was added a couple of months ago, accessible through a web browser for those with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. The app offers access to official Nintendo soundtracks, which is notable given the company's past reluctance to make its music publicly available and its history of shutting down fan-made YouTube channels that share it.
Standout tracks highlighted
Among the standout tracks now available are the Title Theme (Big Band) from Super Mario 64, Dolphin Shoals (Electro) from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Riverside Park from Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Castle BGM from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the original Whistletop Summit, and Rainbow Road, which changes throughout the race, becoming soft and relaxing during the water section, chiptune-esque at the retro-inspired satellite, and culminating in a bombastic finish for the final lap.
While the full soundtrack is welcome, questions remain about why it has arrived before any substantial DLC for the game. Since Mario Kart World's launch last year, Nintendo has not announced an expansion pack with new characters or racetracks, instead opting for minor quality of life patches. New Knockout Rally races have been added, but they use existing tracks, and players are still hoping for the ability to customise their own routes across the open world.
Long-term support expected
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has described Mario Kart World as an 'evergreen title' that the company wants to keep selling throughout the Switch 2's whole lifecycle. That suggests long-term support, and new characters and tracks would be the best way to drive new sales, but so far nothing has been announced.
