The Last One Laughing Halloween special has announced its lineup, and deputy TV editor Tom Percival is already convinced of the winner: Reece Shearsmith.
Comedians Entering Jimmy Carr's Lair
The special will feature Jack Dee, Daisy May Cooper, Phil Wang, Lou Sanders, Reece Shearsmith, Harriet Dyer, and Tom Allen. They must keep a straight face while surrounded by some of the funniest people on television, including Jimmy Carr. This Samhain-themed special adds a twist: the cast is barred from screaming, and they will face spooky surprises designed to unsettle even battle-hardened TV stars.
Why Reece Shearsmith Has the Edge
Percival argues that Shearsmith has the perfect skillset to win. He points to Shearsmith's composure on Taskmaster, where he remained unflappable amid chaos. His ability to turn amusement into exasperated frustration is a key advantage, similar to David Mitchell's winning strategy. Percival also notes Shearsmith's macabre sense of humor and love of horror, suggesting Jimmy Carr's tricks won't unsettle him. After all, Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton sometimes start their day with mock murders.
Weaknesses in the Competition
Percival dismisses Lou Sanders and Daisy May Cooper, who have already failed at this once before. Phil Wang is deemed too nice to win, as he might laugh out of politeness. Tom Allen and Jack Dee have haughty personas that could crack under constant bombardment. Harriet Dyer is a wildcard, having won the Sean Lock Comedy Award, but Percival admits he doesn't know enough about her to assess her chances fully.
Last One Laughing: Halloween will launch on Prime Video globally on October 23 with the first three episodes, and the final episode will be available on October 30.
