Fans are already hooked on a brand new mystery thriller series featuring a star from Line of Duty. The show, titled Lanterns, is the latest entry in the DC Universe and features superheroes straight from the original Green Lantern comic books. Viewers are praising it as a must-watch for everyone, especially those who love crime dramas and murder mysteries like True Detective.
Premiere Sets Must-Watch Tone
The first episode is out now, with more set to follow on a weekly basis. Audiences claim that just after its premiere entry, the series has already set itself as must-watch TV. Adapted from the Green Lantern comics, the series follows two iconic characters from the series in John Stewart and Hal Jordan, played by Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler respectively.
While Hal currently wears the power ring and holds the title of Green Lantern, he is joined by John to be his protégé in training. The pair end up investigating a serious crime in a small town which may have links to alien beings.
True Detective Comparisons and Rave Reviews
The show is co-created by Chris Mundy, who has previously worked on episodes of True Detective, which has not gone unnoticed in Lanterns. Many reviewers have made the comparison, as it earned a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans are just as enthusiastic about the show so far, with many claiming they can't wait to see more.
Sharing their thoughts online, one person posted: "Well damn I was glued to the screen. They really picked the right people for a crime mystery featuring Green Lanterns. Feels great having a show I'm looking forward to watching each week." Another similarly said: "We're only one episode in but already I'm hooked. The humour is on point, the colour grading is beautiful, great acting and some really compelling scenes. Perfect. Cannot WAIT for next week."
Fans Pleasantly Surprised
With previous DC projects earning mixed reception, many were concerned about what to expect from Lanterns. However, several claimed they were left pleasantly surprised. As one person argued: "This was even better than I was expecting. Just am absolute perfection of an episode."
Someone else replied: "What. A. Pilot. Kyle chandler as Hal Jordan is phenomenal while we can clearly see the stakes are larger than ever." While a viewer declared: "First episode was awesome, dialogue and pacing was great and the dynamic between Hal and john was incredible! Can't wait to see more!!!" And one added "Wow wow wow! The first episode was insane! The writing, the cinematography, the visual effects, everything! can't wait to watch the second episode!"
Lanterns is streaming on HBO Max, NOW and Sky.
