Janey Godley's £448,515 fortune revealed in court papers

Comedian Janey Godley's estate totalled nearly £450,000, according to court documents lodged at Glasgow Sheriff Court nearly two years after her death in November 2024. The Glasgow-born star died aged 63 in a hospice surrounded by loved ones following a long battle with cancer.

Before her passing, Godley named her husband Sean and daughter Ashley Storrie, 40, as executors of her will. The papers reveal an estate worth £448,515 has been left to her family.

Estate breakdown

With her occupation listed as "comedian", the documents show the total fortune stood at £448,515 in November 2024. This was broken down into £293,709 worth of shares in her company JAI Incorporated Ltd, which was used for her comedy and media work. Created in 2019, Janey and her daughter Ashley were both directors of the business.

Additionally, Godley had £98,500 in bank accounts at the time of her passing. This fortune has been given to her family, who were heartbroken at the star's passing.

Career highlights

Godley first found fame during the pandemic as she made millions of people chuckle with her dubbed parodies of Nicola Sturgeon's briefings. She was also known for being straightforward in her opinions. One viral moment came when Janey joined protesters at the then former US President Donald Trump's Turnberry golf course in 2016.

Leaving quite the impression, Godley could be seen amongst the group of protesters holding a sign saying 'Trump is a c**t'. She later revealed that she had been banned from travelling to America due to the incident.

Health battle and final years

The comedian sadly revealed in November 2021 that she had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After undergoing a hysterectomy and chemotherapy, Godley was soon after given the all clear. However, her health was seen to deteriorate again after further scans found that the cancer had returned and was now in her abdomen.

Janey continued to work during 2024 despite her health and performed shows across the country as part of her Not Dead Yet Tour. However, she was forced to cancel her Why Is She Still Here? tour in September 2024 after contracting sepsis. A few weeks before her passing, the 63-year-old moved into a hospice to receive 'end-of-life' care.

Her passing was announced by her manager Chris Davis in early November. He said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our client Doctor Janey Godley on 2nd November."

"Janey died peacefully in the wonderful Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow surrounded by her loved ones. She will be hugely missed by her family, friends and her many fans."

"She will be remembered for her legendary voiceovers of Nicola Sturgeon during the pandemic, her hilarious and outspoken comedy, but most of all for just being 'Janey'."
