Hundreds of people formed a massive queue on Renshaw Street this morning to meet one of Liverpool's most popular musicians, rapper Mazza L20. The event was hosted at Block P, an independent streetwear and trainer shop owned by best friends Sam Byrne and Charlie McDonough.
Fans Travel from Far and Wide
Robin Evans, 18, traveled from Blackburn with his family to see Mazza. He told the ECHO: "He's inspired me a lot, so I've always wanted to meet him. I've been rapping for three years now and I've been following what he's been doing all the way and it's really inspiring and it keeps me going. His story is very relatable, he's come up from a rough childhood and seeing how much he's turned his life around has given me hope I can do the same."
Lola Rose, nine, came with her dad and said: "When I speak to him I'm going to tell him that he's my favourite rapper."
Local Fans and a Special Connection
PJ from Anfield, who came with his friend Kai Wilson, said: "When I saw that Mazza had said that the tickets were available, I went to my mum 'can you buy these for me?' and she went 'hurry-up, go on'."
Roman Garvey, eight, had a unique connection: "He's my uncle's best friend, when I spoke to him on the phone, he told me to sing Murdaside to him."
Shop Owner Reacts
Block P owner Sam Byrne said he and Charlie acted quickly after seeing Mazza's Instagram post. He said: "The event came about a couple of weeks ago now. Mazza put on his Instagram Story that he was looking to do a pop-up in Liverpool and we just messaged him saying that he was more than welcome to come and do it in the shop. It's always a good synergy of culture, music and fashion."
Byrne added: "We've had rappers in the shop before, but it's nice seeing a local artist who's down with the culture come to the shop. We love giving back to the city and getting people together. We've had events like this before, but it's always surreal coming in in the morning and seeing hundreds of people queue round the block. It's a real pinch me moment. When we started this years ago, to getting to this now, it's boss."
