IO Interactive's James Bond Game Could Be a Trilogy, Studio Head Reveals

IO Interactive, the developer behind the Hitman series, has shared new details about its upcoming James Bond video game, Project 007. In an interview with Danish publication DR, studio head Hakan Abrak revealed that the game could be the start of a trilogy and will feature a completely original story with a new digital Bond, not based on any previous actor.

Abrak described the nerve-racking meeting with Barbara Broccoli, owner of Eon Productions, which produces the James Bond films. He said the team prepared for two years before the presentation, knowing that Broccoli was not a fan of previous Bond games, which she felt featured 'violence for the sake of violence'. However, their pitch won her over, with Abrak noting that their vision 'went straight to the heart of Barbara Broccoli herself'.

IO Interactive first announced Project 007 in November 2020, describing it as an origin story that will chronicle Bond's journey to earn his 00 status. Abrak expects the studio to double in size for the project, from 200 to over 400 employees in the coming years, highlighting the significance of the Bond agreement for the company.
