The famous Platform 9 ¾ trolley from the Harry Potter films will be on display at the Vue Cinema in Edinburgh on August 30 and 31, giving Scottish fans a chance to see the iconic prop in the city where the series began.
A Celebration of 25 Years
More than 31 years ago, J.K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in an Edinburgh cafe. The franchise has since grown into one of the world's biggest media properties, with eight Warner Bros films and a new TV adaptation in development.
The first film, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, is nearing its 25th anniversary. It was released in 2001, after Rowling's first four books had been published. To mark the milestone, the film is being re-released in cinemas globally.
The Trolley in Edinburgh
The trolley, normally located at London's King's Cross station, is one of the most photographed Harry Potter attractions. A replica will be available to visit at the Vue Cinema in the Omni Leisure Building on Calton Square.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone will screen at the Vue from August 28 to September 3, but the trolley will only be present for two days. Fans attending participating cinemas can take commemorative photos and enjoy the film, which will include 12 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage shown on the big screen for the first time.
For a limited time, audiences in Edinburgh can relive Harry's first journey from London to Hogwarts and celebrate the film that introduced the world to Harry, Ron and Hermione. Tickets and times are available at the Vue's website.
