The first preview of GTA 6 has appeared online, courtesy of British youth culture magazine Dazed, and it confirms several potentially controversial gameplay elements. The article suggests the game will be more 'grounded' than previous entries, with realistic reactions to player actions and a focus on immersion over chaos.
Realistic world reactions
According to the Dazed article, the game will feature a world that reacts to the player as it would in real life. Simply walking around with a gun out would cause everyone to react accordingly, a departure from the series' tradition of allowing players to cause mayhem with little police interference.
The article reads: 'For some gamers, there's a fear that what GTA 6 gains in immersion, it loses in the chaos and anarchy that have been part of the series' DNA since the outset, but for Rockstar, the goal is to create a world of total immersion, which reacts more realistically than ever to what you choose to make of it.'
Dual character control and RPG systems
The preview also confirms the ability to control both protagonists, Jason and Lucia. Players can wander off as either character alone or swap between them when they are together, similar to a Lego game, though there is no suggestion of co-op play.
Additionally, the game will feature role-playing systems similar to 2004's San Andreas. Eating too much food without exercising will cause both characters to gain weight, while working out builds muscles. Separate reports have also suggested that cars will run out of petrol and need refuelling.
The preview follows rumours that several influencers were invited to Rockstar North last month, with at least one claiming to have exclusive information to share after the Netflix Extended Look premieres on Thursday evening. A new video from the game has also leaked, reportedly containing story spoilers, ahead of the game's release on November 19.
