GTA 6 pre-orders hit 7.71 million before launch

Grand Theft Auto 6 has already sold 7.71 million copies through pre-orders, generating $751 million (about £558 million) in revenue, according to data analytics firm Sensor Tower. The game is set to launch on November 19, exactly two weeks from now.

Pre-order sales surpass expectations

Take-Two Interactive, the publisher behind GTA 6, has described pre-order figures as 'unprecedented and astonishing.' Sensor Tower's updated estimates show the game has sold nearly eight million copies on pre-orders alone.

To put that in perspective, Mario Kart World, which launched in June 2025, only recently crossed the 16 million sales mark. GTA 6 has reportedly sold almost half of that before its release.

Comparisons to other major releases

Even the PlayStation 5's biggest exclusives have not seen such results. Spider-Man 2, which is Sony's fastest selling exclusive ever, sold 2.5 million copies at launch and took 107 days to reach 10 million, as shown in Sony's own financial earnings.

Sensor Tower also reports that the vast majority of GTA 6 sales are on PlayStation 5 – 74% as opposed to 26% on Xbox Series X. This is partly due to Sony's exclusive marketing campaign, as the launch trailer on Rockstar's YouTube channel does not mention Xbox availability.

Revenue projections and launch outlook

GTA 6 is predicted to make at least $3.25 billion (£2.4 billion) in its first week, a target that seems plausible given that GTA 5 made $1 billion in only three days. The game is launching digitally only, so there is no risk of running out of copies.

Rockstar has also shared new screenshots on its website, though they do not confirm anything new and just reaffirm activities already shown in the trailers.
