Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look, the special Netflix presentation from Rockstar Games, is reportedly set to last roughly 30 minutes, according to a BBC Newsbeat report. The report has since been altered to remove the expected runtime, but fans had already noted the original claim.
Netflix special details emerge
The special is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Netflix on Thursday, August 27 at 8pm BST, six hours before it appears on official social media channels. Rockstar announced the partnership with the streaming service after a significant deal.
Recent speculation that the extended look would be a three-part episodic series was dismissed as the result of what appeared to be an edited screenshot of a Netflix webpage. The BBC article originally stated: "A few weeks ago, developer Rockstar announced it would break its long silence with a special 'extended look' at the highly anticipated video game in a 30-minute special on Netflix."
Leaks prompt legal action
The Netflix special follows days of leaks that have given fans an early glimpse at the game. A leaker who appears to have a working full build of GTA 6 has dropped various gameplay clips.
Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive have been taking legal action to plug the leaks. Take-Two has issued copyright takedown notices across platforms like YouTube, Reddit and X, formerly Twitter, targeting accounts hosting or resharing the unauthorised footage. Legal representatives have reported cease-and-desist notices, marking a fresh legal campaign after the 2022 network breach that caused leaks of GTA 6 four years ago.
Fan reactions to leaked footage
Fans on Reddit have pointed out that the leaked clips add up to "roughly" 13 minutes of gameplay. The leaks are widely considered to come from an older build of the game, reportedly dating back from last year.
Some fans expect the official reveal to be "more exciting" than the leaked footage. One Reddit user wrote: "What the leaker is leaking is not the same footage as what Rockstar will be showing." Another agreed, saying: "I think comparing it to the leaked footage isn’t helpful. The leaked footage for the most part is just messing about In the open world. The extended look will be more exciting game play." A third expressed apprehension, adding: "I feel like it’s gonna disappoint a lot of people now, especially after the leaks."
