The ongoing Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks have escalated to the point where fans fear the entire game's plot, including its ending, could be spoiled online. The person behind the leaks appears to possess a full build of the year's most anticipated game, which could become a nightmare scenario for developer Rockstar Games just before a major marketing campaign.
Leaker's Full Build Raises Spoiler Concerns
Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive had promised an innovative advertising approach, headlined by the exclusive Netflix special, GTA VI: An Extended Look, scheduled for Thursday, August 27. That was likely to be the first look at gameplay, but the leaks have provided an earlier glimpse, forcing Rockstar to scramble to contain the damage.
Clips showing what appears to be main character Jason shooting bullets at a wall to spell out the leaker's name suggest a full build. The game's map of the fictional state of Leonida and other gameplay details have also been allegedly revealed.
DMCA Takedowns and Fan Reactions
Following the leaks, Rockstar and Take-Two issued DMCA takedowns of video clips showing the leaked game, but that hasn't stopped widespread discussion. Given the notoriety the leaker is gaining, it's unlikely they'll stop soon, and fans worry that major story beats, character arcs, and the ending could be leaked imminently.
On Reddit, one fan admitted initially thinking the leaks were "a very sophisticated fake," but changed their mind after seeing a video of someone playing the game. They wrote: "Now it seems almost certain that a great deal of people will be playing it well before release, because they're not going to adhere to his demands, so I don't see why he would not leak the version of the game he has publicly."
Another fan said they "don't have a doubt" the ending will be leaked if possible, adding: "Anyway that wouldn't be a hype killer for me, story mode is 15% the reason I'm playing it, I'm already hyped for the cars shown, gameplay and last but not least the music."
A third Redditor wrote: "If he leaks the ending, all people would turn on him. Would be a bold move."
