GTA 6 'dead man's switch' leak debunked as fake ahead of Netflix reveal
GTA 6 'dead man's switch' leak debunked as fake

Insider Gaming has retracted its report that the GTA 6 leaker known as 'CyberLeek' had set up a 'dead man's switch' that would publish the entire supposed leaked build of the game online if not manually stopped every 24 hours. The publication now says the original source for that claim has been debunked as fake.

False report on alleged leak threat

In an updated article, author Grant Taylor-Hill wrote that the original report, published on August 22, concerned a threat made by the CYBERLEEK entity to Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive. The threat suggested they would release a full build of Grand Theft Auto 6 if the organizations refused to relent in their legal pursuit of the group.

Taylor-Hill stated: "Unfortunately, this article was based on an image and discourse that have since been proven false, manufactured and circulated online by one of the many people copying or aping what CYBERLEEK is doing, for whatever reason. As you can likely understand, this means that the original report has been scrapped and publicly debunked."

Context of recent GTA 6 leaks

For the last week, an online group or individual known as 'CyberLeek' has been releasing short gameplay clips claiming to be from a leaked playable build of GTA 6. The clips have shown what appears to be gameplay of protagonist Jason flying a plane, driving through city suburbs, and entering the game's strip club.

Rockstar itself has stayed quiet, but parent company Take-Two has issued subpoenas in an attempt to identify who is leaking the alleged footage.

Upcoming official reveal

So far, the only official footage of GTA 6 that Rockstar Games has revealed is in the official Trailer 1 and Trailer 2 videos from 2023 and 2025. The Netflix Extended Look is set to kick off at 8pm BST on Thursday, August 27.

The Extended Look will go live on YouTube six hours later for everyone to watch for free.
