Funstation, the entertainment complex that bills itself as 'the ultimate destination for fun,' is set to open in Newcastle's The Gate, with job adverts already appearing online for roles at the new venue.
What is Funstation?
Funstation already operates venues in Belfast, Birmingham, Edinburgh, and Leeds, and is known for offering a mix of classic carnival favourites and immersive experiences. Activities at its existing UK venues include dodgems, penalty shoot outs, laser games, VR challenges, and escape rooms.
The brand has been established for 20 years and says each venue has its own unique mix of games, attractions, and special offers, meaning no two Funstations are the same.
New opening at The Gate
The news comes in a busy week for The Gate, which also saw billboards go up to promote another major new opening. Earlier this summer, it was announced that Mexican restaurant Tia's would move into the former Bar Bannatyne premises, which have been empty for several years. Tia's is expected to open in a matter of weeks.
Firebird, a two-storey restaurant first announced last year, will also open nearby in the former Mood nightclub and Za Za Bazaar space, described as Newcastle's 'first ever' luxury buffet. An opening date for Firebird has yet to be confirmed.
Job advert hints at imminent opening
A job advert for a Team Leader at the new Newcastle Funstation has appeared online, suggesting the opening may not be far off. This follows a similar pattern earlier this week when an online job ad revealed that coffee chain Blank Street is opening in Newcastle.
Blank Street, which opened in Brooklyn, NYC in 2020, was valued at over $500 million last year and now has branches worldwide, including in London and Bristol.
