The Football Manager 27 Launch Preview, a free early access version of the game, goes live at 6pm GMT on Thursday, October 29, and will be playable for five days across multiple platforms.
Sports Interactive is offering the preview to all players without requiring a pre-order, a departure from the usual early access model that was locked behind pre-orders for FM26. The move follows criticism of Football Manager 26, which arrived in November with bugs and a user interface that disappointed players, prompting many to demand refunds.
How to Play the FM27 Launch Preview
From 6pm GMT on October 29, the FM27 Launch Preview will be freely playable on Steam, Epic, the Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. No additional sign-up is required; players can download the game directly from their preferred platform.
Progress made in the Launch Preview carries over to the full game, which is due for release on Tuesday, November 10. The preview runs until 6pm GMT on November 3, when it closes to those who have not pre-ordered. Players who pre-order during the preview window receive 10 per cent off the game and continued access until the full launch.
New Features and Returning Favourites
Sports Interactive has promised a "clearer" interface and "smoother navigation" for FM27, aiming to reduce the number of clicks and create a more efficient flow. The Portal screen allows players to swap tiles for others of the same size, such as replacing the 'next opposition report' tile with a 'stages' tile showing the top three in a domestic league.
Training has received a "system overhaul" to make it more intuitive, and the game introduces Tactical Effectiveness, which measures tactical understanding, player ability, player buy-in and next match information through gauges. This feature also plays a role in scout reports during player recruitment.
Match Engine and New Game Modes
The match engine has been upgraded, with Sports Interactive explaining that 1v1 defending now "feels like more of a dynamic duel" as defenders move "more intelligently" rather than relying on "unnaturally fast bursts of acceleration." Tactical Tweaks allow managers to make micro tactical decisions for individuals and the team during matches without returning to the full tactics screen.
Visual improvements include updated fans in the stands, more authentic matchday conditions and fresh player models. Transfer Deadline Day and Cup Draws return, and Manager Creator gains more customisation options.
A new mode called Shuffle Draft, inspired by the old Fantasy Draft feature, supports 2 to 32 players in private or public lobbies. Players draft from dynamically created sets of 20 players, with the number of sets determined by the number of participants. For example, 10 managers would draft from 10 sets of 20 players. Player pools can be predefined from the Men's or Women's game, including options like World's Best, Wonderkids, Veterans and Lower League Legends, or customised by attributes such as Leadership and Physical, or filtered by nationality, reputation and club division.
