Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Direct Reveals Time Skip Twist

Nintendo's dedicated Direct for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave has unveiled a significant plot twist: the game features a five-year time skip, a true protagonist with time travel abilities, and a confirmed connection to Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Gameplay and Story Details

The 22-minute presentation offered the first in-depth look at the game, focusing on tactical gameplay and out-of-battle activities reminiscent of recent entries like Three Houses and Engage. The initially advertised premise—featuring four protagonists in a gladiatorial event called the Heroic Games—turns out to be a deliberate misdirect.

Near the end of the Direct, Nintendo revealed that after a five-year time skip, the world is invaded by a demon god. Players then assume control of a nameless white-haired individual, described as 'the story's true protagonist,' who is summoned to save the world. This character gains time travel powers, allowing recruitment of the four leads and potentially revisiting earlier story segments.

Connection to Three Houses

Nintendo also confirmed that the mysterious green-haired woman from initial trailers is an older Sothis, a key character from Three Houses. This corroborates fan theories that Fortune's Weave is a distant sequel or set in the same world. The time travel mechanic may also pave the way for returning fan-favorite characters from Three Houses.

The Direct also showed a character wielding a modern-looking laser gun, a departure from the medieval fantasy setting typical of Fire Emblem.

Pricing and Availability

Nintendo reminded fans of the special Dagdan Collection, which includes an artbook and poster, but it remains out of stock on Nintendo's UK store and most other retailers. GAME is still accepting pre-orders at £89.99, slightly below Nintendo's £92.99. The digital version costs £58.99, while physical copies are £66.99.
