Exodus, the sci-fi role-playing game from former Mass Effect developers, will launch on April 7, 2027, as announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live. The release date was accompanied by a new gameplay trailer showcasing two companion characters: Salt, an octopus bounty hunter in a mech suit, and Emrys, an enigmatic alien who drains enemy energy.
Wishlist milestones and rewards
Developer Archetype Entertainment reports that Exodus has been wishlisted over 500,000 times across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The team is encouraging further wishlists by offering rewards at certain milestones. The first target has already been met, and the studio hopes to reach one million wishlists, which will unlock new in-game costumes for protagonist Jun, according to Archetype's website.
Archetype's first project
Exodus is Archetype's first game and is published by Wizards of the Coast, the company behind Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, as part of its push into in-house video game development.
Other Mass Effect alternatives
Exodus is not the only Mass Effect alternative in development. Owlcat Games, known for Pathfinder-based titles, is working on The Expanse: Reborn, an action role-player based on The Expanse franchise, also aiming for a 2027 launch. Mass Effect director Casey Hudson has founded Arcanaut Studios with former BioWare staff, working on Star Wars: Fate Of The Old Republic. That project has no release date or gameplay footage, though Hudson has said players won't wait until 2030 to play it.
