Emmerdale fans are worried that a piece of evidence could incriminate Charity Dingle following Dr Caitlin Todd's death. Charity was arrested after Todd died in her home, and viewers have spotted a potential flaw in her story.
Charity's arrest and confession
Earlier this week, Charity (Emma Atkins) confronted Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) after the surgeon let herself into Jacob's Fold uninvited. After Todd refused to leave, Charity overpowered her, made her a glass of water, and demanded she listen. Charity then revealed her trauma from being raped as a teenager and being a victim of sexual assault by Todd, who denied the accusations.
Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) entered quietly and was horrified to hear of Todd's assault, leading to an argument. As the altercation escalated, Sarah shoved Todd, who slipped on a rug and hit her head on a coffee table, dying on impact.
Police investigation and new evidence
Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) arrived after witnessing a row between Todd and Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) in the street. She advised Charity to call the police and told her what to say. When police arrived, Charity and Sarah were arrested, with Charity taking the blame and claiming Todd had broken in and attacked her. DS Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) suggested Charity killed Todd in revenge because the rape investigation hadn't gone as hoped.
On Thursday (August 13), after being held overnight, Charity was told she would face more questioning as new evidence emerged. Police believe a picture of Charity and Sarah having a vendetta against Todd is forming, but Charity's solicitor tried to shut down that line of questioning. Charity returned to the village on bail and confessed to her family that she had been raped by Todd.
Fans spot incriminating DNA evidence
Fans now fear that Todd's DNA on the glass of water and on the sofa will frame Charity, as it proves an altercation did not occur immediately after Todd entered the home. On X, one viewer said: "If the police actually go through the house & process all the evidence, Charity would be charged. Todd's DNA is all over her sofa & on that glass of water, which doesn't support her claim that Todd came in raging or that she was scared of her, but they won't. She's fine #emmerdale."
Another added: "DOH! SPOT THE INCRIMINATING EVIDENCE! Why's Todd's DNA on a glass of water? She's supposedly come in, all guns blazing. In the mêlée that ensued. At what point has Todd got thirsty & asked Charity for a quenching drink of water, or maybe they offered."
A third chimed in: "Like others, I wonder if the glass of water comes back into play. At first, I saw this theory and thought they’d just assume it was someone in the house's water. But was it deliberate to give her water for it to come up later? This show is giving me a headache. #emmerdale."
Another asked: "#Emmerdale. Why did Charity give Todd a glass of water anyway? And why wasn’t her door locked to prevent her rapist from walking in again? I guess they need these things for a story."
