Emmerdale fans in tears as Cain pays tribute to Zak in dog's death

Emmerdale aired the death of beloved dog Monty in Wednesday's episode, with Cain Dingle paying an emotional tribute to his late father, Zak, as he cradled the pet in his arms.

Monty, introduced in 2018 as a companion for Zak after the death of the family's Irish Wolfhound Alfie, had been diagnosed with incurable cancer. Despite Cain's efforts to extend his life, the dog's health deteriorated, and the family decided it was time to let him go.

Cain's final goodbye

On August 5, Cain took Monty to the vets alone, while Lydia, Sam, Belle, and Kammy stayed home to support Kyle and Isaac. As Rhona administered the medication, Cain hugged Monty and wept, saying: "Remember what I said, you are a good boy, and I know my dad was always grateful for having you, always."

He added: "When you get up there, you tell him how much we love him and that we miss him loads. And you make sure he takes you for plenty of walks, just like old times."

As tears fell, Cain said: "We love you, you scruffy old thing," before confirming Monty's death to Rhona.
