Emmerdale and Coronation Street have been pulled from ITV's schedule tonight (August 12) to make way for a live football friendly between Manchester United and Leeds United.
The two soaps are missing from Wednesday's line-up as ITV and ITVX broadcast the pre-season clash from Dublin's Croke Park, with coverage running from 7pm to 10pm.
First club match at Croke Park since 2009
The match marks the first time a club football fixture has been staged at Ireland's biggest stadium, and the first football match at the ground since November 2009, according to the Daily Star.
The encounter is part of both clubs' preparations for the 2026/2027 campaign, with the new Premier League season set to begin later this month.
Soaps return on Thursday
The schedule change follows disruption to the usual weekday line-up throughout June and July due to the FIFA World Cup.
Both shows will return to their regular slots on Thursday (August 13), with Emmerdale at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8:30pm.
Storylines continue
Emmerdale will continue to explore the aftermath of Dr Caitlin Todd's (Caroline Harker) death, as Woolpack landlady Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) remains at the police station while inquiries into the "murder" continue.
Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) continues his recovery in hospital after narrowly escaping death at the hands of Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill). He has mistakenly blamed romantic rival Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) for the attack, as he plots to flee with his former wife Dawn (Olivia Bromley), who is expecting Joe's baby, and their children.
On Coronation Street, Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) faces the consequences of the inquiry into the recent murder of Theo Silverton (James Cartwright). Sarah remains in prison while Gary Windass (Mikey North) appears ready to confess, leaving both their futures uncertain.
