EA Sports FC 27 leak reveals PhotoFit face scan feature

EA Sports FC 27 is reportedly bringing back a face-scanning feature last seen in FIFA 16, according to a leak from renowned leaker FutSheriff on X.

PhotoFit feature details

The new feature, called PhotoFit, will allow players to scan their face into the game to 'create an avatar' and 'customise it', as per the leak. It is unclear which modes will support the feature, but it will likely be connected to Player Career Mode, where players can create their own player.

EA has not officially announced PhotoFit for EA Sports FC 27, but the series has used similar technology before. From 2011's FIFA 12, players could use a Game Face feature to upload photos to create their own player. The feature was removed after FIFA 16.

Evolution of face scanning

Given the sophistication of modern smartphone technology, PhotoFit could be more appealing and better implemented than its predecessor. Other games have experimented with face scanning, including Rainbow Six Vegas, WWE 2K, and Amazon's Throne And Liberty.

Back in 2000, Perfect Dark initially had a face-scanning feature using the Game Boy Camera, but it was cut at Nintendo's request due to concerns about its use in multiplayer matches.

Release and editions

EA Sports FC 27 is set to launch on September 25, 2026, across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The standard edition features Kylian Mbappé on the cover, while the Ultimate Edition cover includes both Mbappé and Jude Bellingham.
