Coronation Street fans have made their feelings clear about Sarah Platt's current prison stint, as it was revealed she'll face an attack while behind bars.
Sarah's arrest and confession
In scenes aired in the ITV soap last month, Sarah was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Theo Silverton, months after the builder's lifeless body was found by a horrified Betsy Swain on the night of her mum, Lisa Swain's, wedding to Carla Connor. The arrest came after it was revealed to viewers that it was Sarah who appeared to deal the blow that sent a drunk Theo tumbling off the scaffolding outside his flat and plummeting to the ground - before she called on her former flame, Gary Windass, for help.
It came after Theo's ex-husband, Todd Grimshaw, was revealed as a suspect, along with his loved ones, George Shuttleworth, Summer Spellman, Christina Boyd, as well as Theo's friend-turned-enemy, Gary, and Theo's ex-wife, Danielle Silverton. As Todd struggled in the aftermath of his abusive husband's murder, Sarah ended up confessing the truth of her crime to her friend, while her partner, DC Kit Green, found out when she admitted to killing Theo as he was trying to pop the question.
Despite Kit's attempts to help cover up her crime, Sarah was arrested on suspicion of killing Theo and, while at first she pleaded her innocence, the evidence was stacked against her and DS Lisa Connor-Swain said she had no choice but to charge Sarah with Theo's murder. Sarah has since ended up admitting to the murder, telling DS Lisa Connor-Swain it was in self-defence, and a number of Corrie stars have been seen sharing photos from location filming in Bolton, which looks set to be Sarah's trial as they take over Bolton's Crown Court.
Fan reactions and theories
Corrie fans have responded in their droves after the results of the Manchester Evening News' poll revealed the majority don't want to see Sarah behind bars - and it's because they don't think she was responsible for Theo's death. One said on the Celebrity Manchester Facebook page: "No! For a start it was self defence, and I don’t think Theo was dead as his foot moved, so I’m thinking it was Gary or Jodie that finished him off!" Another echoed: "No, as Theo's leg moved, when Gary was with him."
A third shared: "No she fidnt do it,and if she did it was self defence." A Corrie fan speculated: "I don’t think she did the final blow.. I think she hit him and he was still breathing but someone came along and finished the job..." A fan also shared: "I think it was Jodie, Sarah's innocent!" A viewer also theorised: "I don't think Sarah finished him off, not did Gary, but I think Jodie may have. Gary may have moved but I bet he was alive n just unconscious." Another added: "He was still alive when he hit the ground and someone else finished him off."
Upcoming prison attack
It comes after Corrie spoilers for next week's episodes revealed that when a tough-looking inmate shoots Sarah with daggers, leaving her unnerved, later, her daughter, Bethany Platt, visits and is horrified to see her badly bruised face. As the week unfolds, Sarah confides in Kacey, another inmate, about how worried she is about Harry and how grateful she is to her ex-partner for stepping up to the plate. When Kacey lets slip that it’s common knowledge that her ex is a copper, Sarah’s shocked.
Later, Kacey finds Sarah hiding in her cell and reveals that another inmate threatened her, but Kacey assures her that she’ll protect her. Bethany visits Sarah and notices Kacey staring at them, but Sarah explains that Kacey is her new friend and she’s been a lifeline.
