Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) is leaving Coronation Street next week after receiving a job offer that means bidding Weatherfield farewell. The departure, announced earlier this year, will see the alt-goth character exit the cobbles as actress Mollie Gallagher joins the cast of Silence of the Lambs.
Nina's Story on the Cobbles
Nina was introduced in 2019 as the long-lost niece of Roy Cropper (David Neilson). She quickly won viewers over with her kindness, integrity, and authenticity, with her gothic identity serving as a serious story point. Nina and her then-boyfriend Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) were violently attacked by Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) and his gang because of Nina's alternative style, an incident loosely based on the real-life murder of Sophie Lancaster. Seb tragically died in the attack.
In the aftermath, a devastated Nina turned her back on her alternative identity but later regained her confidence with the support of her best friend turned girlfriend Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey). The couple, known as Nasha, became a fan favourite, but their relationship ended when Nina kissed Asha's twin brother Aadi (Adam Hussain). A reconciliation now seems unlikely, as Asha is pursuing a romance with newcomer Sienna Milburn (Charlotte Tyree), and Nina still lives with Asha.
Exit Story and Future
In next week's episodes, Nina returns from a stay in Whitby and tells Roy she believes she blew her interview at an art gallery. Later at the Rovers, she receives a message from Ruby at the gallery offering her the job.
In an interview with Digital Spy earlier this year, Mollie Gallagher expressed relief that her character was not being killed off and hinted the door was open for a return. She said, 'I would not have been able to deal with that! Nina is such a unique character and I think there's so much to do with her.' She added, 'Obviously there's the brilliant relationship with Roy, too. I think that's my favourite part of being at Corrie – Nina and Roy. So I hope that it isn't the end.'
