COD Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta: Switch 2 joins this weekend

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta is set to begin on Friday, August 28, at 10am PT (6pm BST) for players on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, PS5, PC via Steam or Battle.net, and Nintendo Switch 2. This second weekend of early access offers a first look at the game for many, including Switch 2 owners.

Open Beta details and access

Unlike the early access weekend, the Open Beta is not gated, meaning anyone can download it on their chosen platform and play without a code. Players are encouraged to sign in to their Activision account before playing, which allows beta rewards to carry over and supports cross-platform progression.

Pre-loading has been available for a week on all platforms except Switch 2, for which pre-loading became available at 5pm on Wednesday, August 26. The beta can be pre-loaded, downloaded, and installed ahead of the 6pm start time on Friday.

Content and rewards

During the Open Beta weekend, players will have access to more content than the early access beta. The player level cap is increased from 20 to 30, and all eight beta rewards can be unlocked, which will be available in the full game when Modern Warfare 4 launches on Friday, October 23.

The campaign mission 'Entrenched' returns from the first weekend, as does the Mobility Course. The following Core 6v6 modes and maps will be available: Team Deathmatch, Hijack, Inflation, Domination, and Hardpoint, on maps Cachette, Lithium, Lotus, Rooftops, Silkworm, and Transit 213.

New features and Warzone map

Players will also get to try the new Kill Block feature in Gunfight mode. Ground War is available across three maps for 24v24 action. The all-new Warzone Resurgence map, Zodiac, will make an appearance, described as a "compact combat zone" with an explosive tank battle and action across ground and air, as well as a few surprises to encounter.
