Sir Billy Connolly has revealed one of his 'special' Glasgow restaurant recommendations that serve the 'best chips in town'. The Big Yin, 83, took to Instagram to announce that Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum are running a special exhibition about his life next year.
A 'very dear place' in his heart
The upcoming exhibition is in a fitting location as the Scots comedian has revealed that Kelvingrove holds a 'very dear place' in his heart. Not only that, it's also home to one of his favourite restaurants as he revealed the cafe inside the museum in the west end of Glasgow makes the best chips in the city where he suggested people can head if they get 'bored' of his life story.
The Scots comedian, 83, who was born and bred in Glasgow, delighted fans with a rare video of himself speaking to the camera as he revealed the 2027 Billy Connolly's Big Wee Exhibition.
Billy's invitation
The retired actor appeared on video as he said: "Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum are running a special exhibition about my life, my times, my clothes, my comedy and you're very welcome to come along and have a laugh. I think it's the most extraordinary place, a very dear place in my heart. When I think of it, I think of Salvador Dali. And then how do you arrive from Billy Connolly at that? I don't know. But if you're bored with it, there's a special restaurant there, they have the best chips in town. Be my guest, come along."
And it appears Billy's recommendation is a pretty solid one as the museum inside Kelvingrove Art Gallery boasts many glowing five star reviews on Tripadvisor with visitors praising it's quality of food.
Visitor reviews back Billy's claim
One visitor left a review in July 2026, stating: "Downstairs cafe at Kelvingrove museum is a must-go." They added: "The downstairs cafe/restaurant is superb. It offers a really good range of healthy and tasty food for all and at a good price, which is just what you want for families."
Another corroborated Billy's chips recommendation at the cafe as they wrote: "This is a sit-down and be served restaurant rather than a self-service cafe but sells everything from cakes and sandwiches to proper main meals. My husband's haddock and chips was very nice and my chicken balmoral was superb, proper restaurant standard food!"
A third agreed: "Surprised and impressed by the quality of the food. The peanut and sweet potato curry was outstanding and my partner had a very generous portion of fish and chips with the batter cooked to perfection."
Billy Connolly is also known to be a big lover of another few restaurants in the city including Café Gandolfi and Cafe D`Jaconelli on Maryhill Road.
Exhibition details
The Billy Connolly Big Wee Exhibition is coming to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum next year but dates are yet to be announced. It comes after the comedian recorded a special audio guide for the art gallery earlier this year where he gave his memories regarding 12 items found at Kelvingrove. The museum said full details about the exhibition would be revealed at a later date.
