Security on the Batman set in Glasgow is on high alert as cheeky fans try to sneak cans of Irn Bru into scenes. Crews are said to be sweeping the set every night after tins of the beloved fizzy drink were found hidden in props.
Fans hide cans in props
Most of Bothwell Street, where scenes are being filmed, is open during the day and dozens of fans have been able to get photos with the movie cars. But jokers have tried to tactically stash pop cans in spots where they might appear in the film.
Security crews are said to be on the lookout and are having to do nightly sweeps of the set to find the iconic orange containers mischievous fans have left behind.
Social media reaction
One social media user wrote: "Went to The Batman 2 set in Glasgow and one of the security people said that they have to search the set for Irn Bru cans every night. The locals are trying to sneak one into the film and they keep popping up in the bins and hot dog stands."
An IRN-BRU spokesperson said: "We’ve always had our suspicions that BRUce Wayne was made from girders. If he needs a can to keep him going while saving Gotham, Glasgow’s clearly got him covered. Just stick up the Bat signal and we'll make sure there's some IRN-BRU for his utility belt."
Filming in Glasgow
The Batman Part II is the latest superhero blockbuster to be filmed in Glasgow. The Batman, in 2022, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day were also shot in the city.
Social media wags suggested Glaswegians attempt to insert other Scottish cultural icons on set. One quipped: "Extra points for getting a Tunnock's teacake into the film." Another added: "So is anyone going to put a road cone on the Batmobile?"
In 2019, a Starbucks cup was slipped into an episode of HBO's fantasy drama Game of Thrones. The cup was accidentally left on a banquet table in front of Daenerys Targaryen on the fourth episode of the series' eight season, which first aired on May 5 that year.
