Fans of Channel 5's period drama All Creatures Great and Small are calling the show a "masterpiece" and saying it is better than the BBC's Call the Midwife, ahead of its eagerly awaited season seven return.
The series, a 2020 adaptation of the beloved 1978 original, is based on the heartwarming 1972 autobiographical memoir by British veterinarian James Alfred Wight, who wrote under the pen name James Herriot. It follows newly qualified vet James Herriot as he secures a job in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s, quickly becoming acquainted with his co-workers, the locals and their animals as he builds a new life as a country vet.

Viewers have drawn comparisons to Call the Midwife, which offers a similar premise but tells the story of a group of nurse-midwives working in the impoverished East End of London during the changing times of the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
