Sacha Baron Cohen's iconic character Ali G is making a comeback in a new film, Ali G: Who Iz I?, arriving 24 years after the original movie. The project also marks Cohen's directorial debut.
The character, a London rude boy, rose to fame in the early 2000s on Da Ali G Show, where he conducted satirical interviews with figures including Donald Trump and Jacob Rees-Mogg. In 2002, Cohen starred in Ali G Indahouse before moving on to the documentary-style films Borat and Bruno.
What to Expect From the Sequel
The official synopsis for the new film reads: "After twenty years spent 'chillin', tokin' and bonin'', Ali G is shocked to discover that his long-term girlfriend, Julie, is 8 months pregnant. Faced with an extra mouth to feed, he gets off his batty and heads to America to reclaim his former glory… but soon encounters adversaries who will ultimately threaten his and his child's very existence."
The film, described as an existential take on the character, is set for release in cinemas on October 23, distributed by Amazon MGM Studios.
