Alex Jones on replacing Chiles and Lampard on The One Show

Alex Jones, the longest-running presenter on BBC's The One Show, has spoken about her first show after replacing Adrian Chiles and Christine Lampard, as the programme prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Jones, who joined the show in 2010 after years of presenting children's programmes in Welsh, said she did not find her debut as daunting as expected. "Weirdly, I didn't think the first show was that scary," she told Radio Times. "There was a lot of chat around it because Adrian (Chiles) and Christine (Lampard), who were brilliant, had left the show."

First Guest Whoopi Goldberg

Reflecting on her first day, Jones recalled interviewing her first celebrity guest, American actress Whoopi Goldberg. "It just felt lovely from the first night. There was Whoopi Goldberg, and I thought, 'Oh, I love Ghost. I can't believe this. This is amazing!'", she added.

The One Show first aired in 2006 and remains a regular fixture in UK homes. Over the years, it has been hosted by several big names, including Roman Kemp, Clara Amfo, Angellica Bell, JB Gill, Vernon Kay, and Lauren Laverne.

20th Anniversary Celebrations

As part of the milestone anniversary, the show will host a week of special programmes, featuring special guests, celebrity interviews, surprise moments, and a look back at some of the most loved stories from the past two decades.

Viewers will see Jones and Kemp present together from the studio, while BBC bosses promise familiar faces live across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to revisit memorable stories and find out what happened next. Celebrations will also include live moments, starting at Ireland's biggest celebration of traditional music and culture, Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

The One Show airs weekdays on BBC One from 7pm.
