007 First Light free starter pack opens first mission

IO Interactive has made the opening of 007 First Light free for everyone, as the game receives significant discounts across PS5, Xbox and PC.

The James Bond game, developed by Hitman studio IO Interactive, has been one of the year's best surprises, praised for its performances, set pieces, and well-paced gameplay. Now, the 007 First Light Free Starter Pack lets anyone play the opening level at no cost.

Free Starter Pack Availability

IO Interactive announced the starter pack on Thursday, November 5, which allows players to experience the first mission set in Iceland. It is available now on Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam, with a PlayStation 5 release scheduled for Tuesday, November 10, 2026.

The reason for the PlayStation delay remains unclear, but PS5 owners with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription can currently play a one-hour free trial of the game, which would likely cover the first mission and possibly more.

Discounts Across Platforms

To coincide with the starter pack, 007 First Light is discounted across all platforms. The deluxe edition is available digitally for £34.99 on the PlayStation Store, a 50% reduction. On Steam, it is 40% off at £41.99, and the same 40% discount applies on Xbox at the same price.

The PlayStation discount is part of a wider Black Friday sale that also includes deals on Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Marvel's Wolverine.

Sales and Future Plans

007 First Light sold four million copies within three months of launch, and it is set to release on Nintendo Switch 2 on March 18, 2027. While a sequel has not been officially announced, the closing credits include the familiar phrase 'James Bond will return', hinting at possible future plans.
