Woman mortified as doorbell camera catches her talking to chickens

A woman has shared her 'embarrassing' moment after her neighbour's Ring doorbell camera captured her talking to her chickens, and he now keeps teasing her about it in front of others. The neighbour's camera, pointed at his gate, also records part of her garden, picking up months of her one-sided conversations with her birds.

What happened

Taking to Reddit, the woman explained that she has four chickens and often narrates what she is doing while feeding them or collecting eggs, saying things like 'Right, who's been slacking off today'. She described this as 'completely normal in my head'.

However, the neighbour brought it up 'out of nowhere' at the pub last Friday, doing an impression of her asking a Rhode Island Red about her day in front of the usual crowd.

Situation takes on a life of its own

The situation escalated when men she barely knew began asking her 'How the girls are getting on?' with a straight face. One man asked if she was going to introduce him to them properly, and her own brother-in-law called them 'the parish'.

She said: "I'm half laughing along but I'm also mortified, and I don't think I was doing anything mad, plenty of people talk to animals."

Reddit users weigh in

Wondering whether her behaviour is a harmless quirk or whether the neighbour has gone too far, she asked Reddit users for their opinions. One user said: "People talk to their dogs and cats all the time, right? Not much difference. The odd thing is watching your neighbour and even bringing up what they do in front of others."

Another added: "Totally normal. We have a feral cat that we feed and hangs in our garden. I have great chats with him. Don't worry about it. Your neighbour does seem a bit nosy though."

A third user suggested: "You could ask him not to record on your property, he can set zones on the camera that it's only activated when someone is on his own property, if you have kids tell them you're not comfortable with them recording your property."

One more commenter said: "I'm sure everyone of them has conversations with their dogs. Hell half the time I do both sides of the conversation with my dog. They're just a bunch of a**holes."
