Tomorrowland's main stage was completely destroyed by a fire on Wednesday, just one day before the festival was set to open near Antwerp, Belgium. Organisers confirmed that no injuries occurred during the incident, which sent flames and black smoke billowing into the air.
Despite the destruction, festival organisers have announced that the event will proceed as planned over the next two weekends. The DreamVille campsite is scheduled to open on Thursday, with about 100,000 attendees expected to travel to Boom for the electronic music festival.
In a statement on the festival's website, organisers acknowledged the severity of the incident, describing the main stage as 'severely damaged.' They added that the focus is now on 'finding solutions' for the first weekend of performances.
The fire broke out during the final preparations, prompting a large response from firefighters. Antwerp prosecutors have opened an investigation but have indicated that the fire appears to have been accidental.
Performers scheduled for the opening weekend include David Guetta, Lost Frequencies, Armin Van Buuren, and Charlotte de Witte. Two-thirds of the first weekend's events were allocated to the main stage, which is now destroyed, and the freedom stage.
Tomorrowland, founded 20 years ago by two Belgian brothers, has grown into a globally recognised brand in the electronic dance music scene.
