NOVUM Festival will return to Newcastle in 2027, just weeks after drawing a crowd of 30,000 to the city centre. The event, which took place earlier this month, promised 'culture, creativity, play and unexpected experiences' for its next edition.
Domino Run finale and community involvement
The 2026 festival featured a Domino Run finale, with dominoes toppling at well-known locations around the city, both inside and outside. The first domino fell from a flat window at Bewick Court, and crowds gathered at Grey's Monument, the Bigg Market, The Stand comedy club, Blackfriars and the Helix building, the final spot on the route.
Over the weekend, more than 200 artists and freelancers helped bring the festival to life, alongside 230 volunteers and more than 50 local community groups. The event included headline performances, immersive installations, family activities, live music, silent discos and creative takeovers.
Council leader praises festival's impact
Councillor Colin Ferguson, Leader of Newcastle City Council, said: "What a fantastic weekend it was for Newcastle. NOVUM has truly stamped its mark on our city, bringing together thousands of people to enjoy an inspiring celebration of creativity, culture and community.
"The spectacular Dominoes Newcastle captured the imagination of everyone who saw it and created a real sense of excitement across the city. It was wonderful to see so many families and people of all ages coming together, having fun and enjoying something truly special in the heart of Newcastle."
He added: "NOVUM has shown how culture can be ambitious, accessible and enjoyed by everyone. It is another great example of Newcastle's growing reputation as a city of creativity and cultural flair, and we are incredibly."
Dates for the 2027 festival are set to be announced in the autumn.
