Manchester Day returns today with a host of free family-friendly events across the city centre. Activities kick off from 12 noon at civic squares before the grand parade snakes through the streets from 1pm.
Catalan Twist and Parade Highlights
This year's event celebrates Manchester's cultural ties with Barcelona, featuring a Catalan twist. The parade includes over 550 performers from 25 community groups, led by giant-sized Queen Bee and Worker Bee puppets. For the first time outside Spain, giant puppets known as gegants will appear, along with bold costumes inspired by Catalan tradition. The parade also nods to the National Year of Reading with references to famous books.
Albert Square Returns and Finale
Albert Square is used for Manchester Day for the first time since the Grade I Town Hall closed for restoration in 2018. The square will host the finale from 4.35pm to 5pm, featuring all-singing and dancing performances.
Parade Route
The grand parade sets off from St Peter's Square at 1pm, following Peter Street, turning right onto Deansgate, then left onto St Mary's Gate. It turns right onto Cross Street, then left onto Princess Street past Albert Square, and returns to St Peter's Square.
