Manchester United fans are about to get a glimpse of two new midfield options as the first United players enter the World Cup today. Three nations represented by Old Trafford stars kick off their campaigns.
Matheus Cunha's Brazil Leads the Way
Matheus Cunha's Brazil will enter the World Cup today, facing Morocco on Saturday night. The match could also feature Noussair Mazraoui, with both United players potentially on opposing sides. Cunha faces stiff competition for his place from Igor Thiago, Endrick, Vinicius Jr, and Raphinha, while a growing campaign to include Neymar could threaten his spot. Neymar is not fit for the Morocco game but may target Cunha's position later.
Scotland and Tyler Fletcher
After Brazil vs Morocco, Scotland enters the tournament against Haiti. Teenage United midfielder Tyler Fletcher, a surprise inclusion in Steve Clarke's squad after only 17 minutes for United, hopes for game time off the bench. He could become a first-team option under Michael Carrick next season.
Other United Players in Action
Altay Bayindir and Amad begin their tournaments tomorrow with Turkey and Ivory Coast. Later in the week, Senne Lammens, Manuel Ugarte, Lisandro Martinez, Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Marcus Rashford start their campaigns.
Notably, Casemiro is among the 13 United players at the World Cup but will officially become a free agent during the tournament as his contract expires at the end of June.
Ederson Signing Update
Ederson is not yet officially a United player. The club has agreed a £35 million fee with Atalanta and personal terms with the 26-year-old. He will undergo a medical and sign paperwork after the World Cup, but United fans may get a preview of his abilities when Brazil plays Morocco.
