Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson has shared his thoughts on Andy Burnham becoming Prime Minister, praising the Labour leader as "down to earth" but criticising his heavy social media presence.
Mixed reaction to new PM
Burnham, from Manchester, was recently appointed Labour leader and PM, but has received a mixed reaction. Wilson, speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, said: "With all new Prime Ministers, you are a little unsure, like I'm not going to go around like 'woohoo this is the one, it's this guy'. But so far, I think he has proven himself a bit."
He added: "I just hope we give him a chance and give him at least a couple of years because there's this kind of pointless 'next, next'."
Social media criticism
Wilson, also known for his role on The Voice, said: "But yeah, I like him. I think he is down to earth." However, he noted one irritation: "I'd like him to be a little less down to earth, though. I do think that he is doing a little bit too much social media. I want him to be a bit more like a Prime Minister."
The musician added: "I do watch it when he's telling people about his top 10 albums, but I kind of don't want to know at the same time."
Scenic Route Finder campaign
With 20 years of the Kaiser Chiefs and 1,500 live shows, Wilson has teamed up with Tempcover to celebrate Britain's best scenic road trips and launch the Scenic Route Finder, a tool to help Brits discover scenic spots for staycations. The tool also highlights 'swap spot' locations for drivers to pull over and share driving duties.
Speaking about the campaign, Wilson said: "Some of our best moments on tour - like all of us jumping out of the bus to check out Stonehenge - only happened because we took a scenic detour. Now with four-year-old twins, pit stops are non-negotiable, and swapping grey motorway service stations for incredible scenic spots is a game-changer."
He added: "We've had some legendary detours over the years, and taking the scenic route turns a boring drive into part of the holiday."
