Krazy Races is set to take over Stockport town centre this Sunday (August 9) with a soapbox derby, classic car showcase, and a special RAF flypast. The event, first held in 2023, has become one of Stockport's biggest family-friendly attractions, drawing over 25 teams competing for glory.
Race details and participants
Teams will tackle a 350m course filled with chicanes, obstacles, and water splashes, all while dressed in creative outfits. Past tributes have included Ghostbusters and Freddie Mercury themes. This year's participants include Stockport County FC, North West Ambulance Charity, Age UK, and Royal Nawaab Pyramid restaurant, with prizes for best design and performance.
In addition to the racing, the event will feature a classic car showcase from the Italian Auto Moto Club and a flypast by an RAF aircraft, making this year's event the biggest yet.
Road closures and travel advice
Due to the large scale of the event, several road closures will be in place from 4am to 9pm on Sunday. Visitors are advised to use public transport where possible. The affected roads include Mersey Square, Chestergate, Rock Row, Piccadilly, St Peters Square, St Petersgate, Duke Street, Great Underbank, Bridge Street, and Lower Hillgate.
