The Knowsley Flower Show marked its 28th year on Sunday, with the free event running from 11am to 5pm at Court Hey Park in Huyton. This year’s theme, “Stories in Full Bloom,” tied into the National Year of Reading and celebrated the link between literature and horticulture.
What happened at the show
Visitors took part in more than 100 classes, browsed food stalls and vendors, and enjoyed free entertainment. Among the displays were performances from the West Lancs Dog Display Team, indie rock band Skal, Kuk Sool Won Martial Arts Club, and John Riley and the Antidote, as well as Zumba sessions with Jen.
Show secretary Christine Yates encouraged newcomers to compete, saying: “The theme of this year’s show is ‘Stories in Full Bloom’ to tie in with the National Year of Reading. Just as authors start with the seed of an idea for their plot, so do gardeners, sowing seeds in their plot in the garden. We’d love to see new gardeners take part this year and have classes for novices where you will only be competing with other people who have never tried it before.”
“We provide vases or plates for you to use and we will guide you through the process. Who knows, in a few years you may be winning the trophy for Best in Show.”
A showcase for the region
Billed as the largest free horticultural show in the North West, the event is enjoyed by thousands of visitors and exhibitors each year. The ECHO was there to capture the crowds, prizewinning flowers, and family moments.
