Kirkcudbright, a harbour town in Dumfries and Galloway, will host the Kirkcudbright Autumn Festival on Saturday, October 3, to celebrate the start of the new season. The one-day event, named the Daily Record's Town of the Week, will feature light displays, a lantern parade, fire juggling, and fireworks at the end of the night.
A celebration of the new season
The festival is designed for visitors to soak up the autumn atmosphere with family, friends, and the local community. Throughout the day, a tabletop sale will take place in the Parish Church Hall, offering trinkets and goodies.
Kirkcudbright, a former royal burgh at the mouth of the River Dee, is known as 'Scotland's Artists' Town' due to its history as a home to renowned painters and creatives in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Beyond the festival, the town offers a picturesque harbour and the Kirkcudbright Dark Space Planetarium, which features exhibits on space exploration and technology. The harbour is one of the busiest commercial fishing harbours in the region, with more than 20 vessels regularly bringing in shellfish like scallops.
For food, Skipper's Scran Van serves fresh local seafood throughout the day, including loaded crab fries, king scallops, and tuna sandwiches.
