Highland village hosts first Oktoberfest with beer and comedy

The Highland village of Poolewe is hosting its inaugural Oktoberfest festival this weekend, featuring craft beers, live music and comedy acts.

Village of the Week

Poolewe is a small coastal settlement in Wester Ross in the Northwest Highlands, around 75 miles from Inverness. It sits at the sheltered head of Loch Ewe and is known for its mild climate and views over the water.

The village is the Daily Record's latest Village of the Week, with the festival providing a reason to visit this weekend.

Festival details

Poolewe Oktoberfest takes place across two halls: an un-ticketed beer hall and a ticketed live performance hall. The beer hall is open only to those over 18 and will offer craft beers, cask ales, lagers and ciders.

Performers include multi-award-winning Scottish comedian Chris Forbes, five-time Scottish Magic Champion Chris Dinwoodie, and acoustic folk duo Darwin and The Finches. Street food will also be available throughout the weekend.

The festival website says: "Join us for a unique Highland celebration of great beer, live entertainment and community spirit at the inaugural Poolewe Oktoberfest. Set against the stunning backdrop of Wester Ross, this three-day festival brings together outstanding live entertainment, quality food and one of the Highlands' finest selections of craft and cask beer."
