A gallery of 36 photographs from The Chronicle archives shows how people dressed for a Halloween night out in Newcastle 12 years ago, offering costume inspiration for this year.
In 2014, Collingwood Street – known as the Diamond Strip – was a popular destination for a night on the town. Three of its bars banded together to host a Halloween event that drew crowds in gruesome outfits.

The bars involved were Florita's, House of Smith and Madame Koo, all long since closed. Together they hosted the event, billed as the biggest Halloween party in Newcastle, and the images capture the scene on the street where they stood.
The photos show dramatic face make-up, including one look described as particularly chilling, alongside a wide range of costumes.
Costume Inspiration From the Archives
The grown-up love of Halloween is not something that has only taken off in recent years, and these images serve as a reminder of past nights out in the city.
Some of the outfits on display may provide inspiration for those planning costumes for this year's celebrations.
