Free Gosforth Halloween street event for families on Saturday
Free Gosforth Halloween street event set for Saturday

Four Gosforth residents have spent months creating a free Halloween street event for families, featuring themed gazebos, a bouncy castle, face painting and more, on 31st October.

Event details and activities

The Glanton Wynd Halloween Event will take place on Saturday 31st October from 12pm onwards at Glanton Wynd field, Grange Estate, Gosforth. The event is free and open to all, with fancy dress encouraged.

Activities include a bouncy castle, attractions and smoke machines, four themed gazebos, disco and music, face painting and transfer tattoo application, tombola and sweets. The team will also hand out free sweets and drinks, as well as a free toothbrush and toothpaste.

Organisers and inspiration

The event was brought to life through the dedication of Wendy Martin, Mandy Martin, Anne Luke and Vicky Burman, who spent months working together to create the event. Wendy came up with the idea after being off sick due to a recently diagnosed complex illness and started creating homemade Halloween props to fill her time.

Wendy used to create play schemes when her own children were younger, and she recruited close friends Anne and Vicky to help buy and make homemade props. The event has grown to include themed gazebos for skeletons, clowns, a children’s gazebo and a non-children gazebo for more gory props and fun for adults.

Community spirit and charity

The team hopes the event has a spooky carnival-like atmosphere, completing it with a photo booth and a handmade graveyard. Despite recent storm Boelo causing a bluster, the team has worked to keep the event and props in spooky shape.

The event aims to give back to the children of the community, bring people together and spread kindness. Donations via the tombola will go towards the Newcastle Cat and Dog Shelter. The only rule is that there be no scooters or bikes at the event to help ensure there are no accidents and protect the grass.
