A significant fire has completely destroyed the main stage at the Tomorrowland festival site in Boom, Belgium, ahead of its opening weekend. Around 1,000 employees were present at the time, but no injuries were reported. Firefighters are working to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby woodland.
Local residents were advised to close windows and doors due to smoke, though officials confirmed it was not toxic. Festival organisers stated that the DreamVille campsite will open as planned on Thursday, July 17, and all Global Journey activities in Brussels and Antwerp will proceed. Further updates regarding the festival weekend (Friday to Sunday) are expected soon.
Video footage shows the fire starting on the right side of the stage, with thick smoke and fireworks heard. The structure was completely consumed, leaving only the frame. Mayor Jeroen Baert cut short his holiday in Germany to handle the aftermath.
Tens of thousands of attendees were due to arrive for Weekend 1, which was set to feature headliners including David Guetta and Charlotte De Witte. The festival typically draws 400,000 people over two weekends. Organisers have not yet confirmed whether the event will go ahead as scheduled.
