A fire has destroyed the main stage of the Tomorrowland music festival near Antwerp, Belgium, just a day before thousands of electronic dance music fans were set to arrive. The blaze erupted on Wednesday, causing significant damage but no injuries, according to organisers.
Images shared on local news sites and social media showed flames and plumes of black smoke engulfing the stage and spreading to nearby woodland. Organisers confirmed the incident on the event's website, stating that the main stage had been severely damaged but emphasising that no one was hurt.
Despite the destruction, the festival is still scheduled to proceed over the next two weekends. The DreamVille campsite will open as planned on Thursday, with about 100,000 people expected in the town of Boom. Several hundred firefighters tackled the blaze, and Antwerp prosecutors have opened an investigation, though the fire is believed to have been accidental.
Performers including David Guetta, Lost Frequencies, Armin Van Buuren, and Charlotte de Witte are still set to appear from Friday for the first weekend. The event will be split between the now destroyed main stage and the freedom stage. Tomorrowland, founded 20 years ago by two Belgian brothers, has become a globally renowned brand.
