Belgian authorities have confirmed that two Israeli citizens were briefly detained and questioned at the Tomorrowland music festival near Antwerp last week, following accusations of war crimes made by pro-Palestinian groups. The federal prosecutor's office stated that legal complaints alleged the individuals, identified as Israeli soldiers, were responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza.
After being located by police and interviewed, the two were released without charge. The prosecutor's office noted that Belgian courts claim extraterritorial jurisdiction over alleged war crimes, adding that no further details would be provided at this stage of the investigation.
The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), a Belgian pro-Palestinian organisation, said it had identified the two soldiers among festival attendees waving a flag of the Givati Brigade, an Israeli unit involved in Gaza combat. HRF filed the complaint alongside the Global Legal Action Network, a human rights law group.
