The third and final season of Colin From Accounts begins with a recap of the awkward second-season finale: Gordon on one knee proposing to Ashley in front of a crowded party. Her reply, “We can talk about this later,” effectively means no.
A Three-Year Time Jump
The timeline jumps ahead three years. Ashley is now a practising doctor, and Gordon, having sold his brewery, has made poor investments. “Turns out axe throwing and drinking don’t mix,” he says in a moment that blends humour with emotional tension. The pair unexpectedly meet when Gordon goes for a medical, revealing they haven’t seen each other in years.
This reset brings back the classic romantic-comedy question: will they or won’t they? Viewers, already invested, may overlook the formulaic structure of meet-cute, courtship, separation, and reconciliation.
Chemistry and Writing
Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall, a real-life couple and the show’s writers and co-creators, bring effortless chemistry to their roles. Their dialogue flows naturally, shifting from laugh-out-loud comedy to sad, dramatic moments. The supporting cast includes Ashley’s parents, Lynelle and Lee, still involved in the men’s rights group Women Against Women Against Men (WAWAM), and Gordon’s brewery colleagues Chiara and Brett, who feel like family.
Both Gordon and Ashley have new partners—David (allergic to dogs) and Chelsea (intense)—but these characters are largely unlikeable, serving as placeholders. As Chelsea says in episode three, “You haven’t even seen full on, Gordon. I have done a lot of therapy to stop you seeing full on.”
Direction and Availability
Co-directors Trent O’Donnell and Madeleine Dyer maintain the show’s effortless rhythms. The writing stays consistent with previous seasons. Only the first four episodes were provided for review, but there is reason to hope the series sticks the landing. Colin From Accounts remains one of the most charming romcoms on television.
The first two episodes air in Australia on Foxtel at 8.30pm on 27 July and stream on Binge, with new episodes weekly. UK and US airdates are yet to be announced.
