Bonfire Night 2026: Live updates from Merseyside events

Bonfire Night events are taking place across Merseyside today, November 5, with free and ticketed fireworks displays, funfairs and live music planned at venues across the region.

The annual tradition marks the failure of Guy Fawkes' gunpowder plot on the same date in 1605. Fawkes plotted to kill King James I inside the Parliament building using gunpowder, but the plot was discovered and failed, leading to the date being celebrated through bonfires and fireworks.
